Subject: Technomancers?

I'm seeing stuff in the news about "technomancers". I suppose I could just look it up, but it's more fun to get the opinion from the shadows.

Sort of a rumored take on the old otaku scare. Wireless otaku.

Subject: Otaku?

Okay, not to sound obtuse, but what the hell is an otaku? My Japanese linguasoft says "obsessed" or "nerd." I doubt there was a nerd scare...?

Don't count on that: if you've ever smelled the room after a few kids have spend a day or three playing Final MageCraft online together, you'd be scared, too.

Otaku was a term coined back in the 60s for kids who could interface with the Matrix without simsense or decktech. They just plugged into the Matrix with their datajacks and their minds did the rest. Serious biochemistry and neurological changes, from what I hear. All were pretty young and the ability faded with age. They worshiped a "spirit in the machine" they called the Deep Resonance, and were pretty rare. Sometimes they gathered in tribes and had rumbles in and out of the 'trix. I hear some helped out around the Denver Nexus, while others sided with the rogue program behind the Renraku Arcology in Seattle. Some credible sources put them in league with Winternight and Crash 2.0. Rumor has it most of them died before and during the second Crash, whole tribes slaughtered. Others burned out after the Crash. None of the major tribes seemed to make it past that point. The ones that survived probably aged out of their abilities before now. If there have been any new ones, I cant say. Rumors, but nothing I care to substantiate.

You don't know half the story. Lots of people think they know something about otaku. Most of them are wrong.

Subject: Re: Technomancers?

Moving back on topic, some of my connections have been discussing this on alternate threads. It seems this "virtuakinetic" anomaly is popping up more and more as of late, especially in people suffering from AIPS. I'm attaching a pair of files in the Postings section regarding what we know about these so-called technomancers and AIPS. Beyond that, as far a conjecture goes, the other label some have given them, otaku2, seems apropos: they appear to have the ability to interface with wireless devices without any cyberware or commlink. The media just started picking up the scent of news, but strangely enough, the megacorporations seem to be suppressing it.

Subject: Blitzer

Has anyone heard anything about Blitzer lately? He seems to have completely dropped off the radar. I used to see him at a few bars, but now, nothing.
